For years we’ve been told that quinoa farmers suffer because of our ancient grain obsession. Good news quinoa lovers: it’s OK to eat quinoa again!

Farm Workers Rights: 6 Food Issues We can’t Ignore
Have you ever seen those “Thank a Farmer” bumper stickers? They might seem a little bit flip, but at its heart that sentiment is true. We can thank farmers and farm workers for every bit of food on our plates, so it’s important to consider farm workers rights when we’re shopping for food.

Vegan Recipe: Deliciously Dairy-Free & Fair-Trade Chocolate Chips
Going vegan is easy; but finding fair-trade dairy free chocolate chips at a reasonable price can be challenging! Not only do manufacturers like to sneak in the ol’ cow juice, but many chocolate companies just LOVE exploiting child slavery — which I strongly prefer not to support, thankyouverymuch. Since both vegan and fair trade factors are important to me, and since I don’t have an unlimited fund for building up my chocolate chip pantry shelf, I tinkered up this recipe for cruelty-free dairy-free fair-trade nom. Enjoy!
Are VeeV Organic All-Natural Açaà Cocktails For Real?
I have to admit I was skeptical. After Skinny Girl Cocktails’ “all-natural” ingredient was found to contain cancer-causing preservatives and their full-blown attempt to greenwash consumers, I assumed the worst when I heard about Vita Frute VeeV Organic All-Natural Cocktails. VeeV, which touts itself as the “Worldβs First AΓ§aΓ Spirit,” is hitting the market with three pre-mixed cocktails: the AΓ§aΓ Cosmo, Superfruit Margarita and Skinny AΓ§aΓ Lemonade, and I was fully expecting another case of false advertising. But, I think I was wrong.
Meet Your Food Chain: Transforming the Food Industry from the Grocery Stores to the Farmworkers
We pay attention to how our food is produced, whether organic or conventional, and where it is produced. Local? Imported? But we have few resources to discover who produces our food. A new documentary, Food Chain, looks at the plight of American farmworkers and some solutions to the problems they face.

Guayaki Yerba Mate Review
There’s nothing like beginning the day with a hot cup of tea or coffee. Usually, I pour myself a cup of tea to wake up with, but I recently had the opportunity to try several different blends of Guayaki yerba mate. I might have started a new habit.
The Vanilla Industry’s Dark Side
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and that means sustainable foodies are talking a lot about the link between chocolate and child slavery. The chocolate-slavery connection is an important one, and one we’ve talked quite a bit a out before, too.
What I haven’t seen folks making much noise about are the labor practices surrounding vanilla production.
Bananas and Fair Trade? What You Can Do
Bananas are one of the leading marketable fruits in the world, and you can be sure that big money is involved. The new film βBig Boys Gone Bananas!*β, by Swedish filmmaker Fredrik Gertten is the shocking story of how Dole tried to stop the documentary “Bananas!*” from airing. They failed.
EcoChi for a Greener Home and Hearth This Winter
Was great to be back in the studio with a full crew and some extras! We got caught up a bit and talked about an article Iβd written for our local daily newspaper about a few simple eco-resolutions we could consider for the New Year, which led to a discussion on strategies for succeeding with them!
Choosing Sustainable Beverages
If you’re a regular reader here, chances are you know the importance of eating well and of trying to eat local and organic foods. However, if you’re washing those healthy foods down with unhealthy or unsustainable beverages, does it cancel out your sustainable food choices?
