USDA’s new MyPlate dietary guidelines recommend that fruits and vegetables make up 50 percent of our daily food intake, but how can we meet those standards when we’re not growing enough of either?
The Harvard School of Public Health has offered their version of a food guide, the Healthy Eating Plate. It’s similar to the USDA’s MyPlate, but not exactly like it. The difference, Harvard says, is their food guide is not funded by the food industry.
With only a week or two left before the kids return to school, the OrganWise Guys are ready. They have organized lessons according to state standards and released new educational materials to go with MyPlate.
The folks at Civil Eats shared an excellent infographic breaking down the new USDA My Plate guidelines and giving real food nutrition tips.

The food plate clearly shows that we should be eating a lot of fruits and vegetables, and not too much meat and dairy.
However, as at least one insightful climate action and healthy living advocate has recognized, the USDA doesn’t follow its own advice.
