Did you know that today was World Water Day? I didn’t realize until I came across a World Water Day post on our sister site, Planetsave.
We’ve talked about water around here before, but I don’t think it ever hurts to take a look at our water system again. If you’re reading this site, chances are that you’re fortunate enough to have ready access to clean, safe drinking water. Many folks aren’t so lucky. With the recent news about cuts to water infrastructure here in the U.S. as part of the 2012 federal budget, World Water Day couldn’t have come at a better time.
We need a strong water infrastructure to ensure that we and our children continue to have access to safe drinking water. Without one, the burden falls to on corporations (read: the bottled water industry) and to individuals. We need more funding for a clean water infrastructure, not to rely more on bottled water. Bottled water costs more per liter than gasoline, a cost that many of our country’s poor wouldn’t be able to afford.
Food & Water Watch recently published a very thought-provoking piece on American’s Poor and the Human Right to Water, and World Water Day felt like the appropriate time to share it with you guys. I encourage you to give it a read! If you don’t have time to read, maybe you’d like to let your representatives know that you support a strong water infrastructure! Here’s a simple form to send a letter to your reps.

I read recently that we put a lot more money into infrastructure that we see (i.e. roads not water) and are facing a pretty serious water infrastructure problem bcs of it. send the letter above!
