Vegan restaurant food might seem elusive, but it doesn’t have to be! Arm yourself with the right questions and requests and you can eat vegan pretty much anywhere.
Over the weekend, my husband and I headed up into the Blue Ridge Mountains to Asheville, North Carolina. Asheville is one of my favorite cities in the U.S. It has a beautiful, walkable downtown, and the vegan restaurant scene is out of control.
I spent a lot of time in Manhattan, but I’m not ready to leave New York without looking into the delicious, healthy, vegan eats available across the East River in Brooklyn!
New York is a hub for vegan cuisine as well as eco-friendly places to stay while visiting so without further ado, let’s get going!
New York City, The Big Apple, The City That Never Sleeps…So many monikers for this world famous metropolis. One of the greatest cities in the world, a hub for business, entertainment and best of all, food! This island is home to some of the world’s best cuisine. Which is why one post is just not enough! I’ll start with a few delicious New York vegan hot spots but keep you wanting more in my next post! Let’s get started, shall we?
Located in the heart of the San Ramon Valley, just a quick jaunt from San Francisco, is a great little town called Danville. Peaceful, scenic and full of great American west history, Danville is a perfect place for history geeks to slip away from the city for a tasty meal and take in some fun shopping, parks and museums. There’s also plenty of delicious vegan food in Danville! Here are a few of my faves.
Located near the majestic Monterrey Bay, you’ll find Aptos. A great little seaside town, sandwiched by beautiful beaches and pine lined mountains, Aptos is a close home to many agricultural farms and businesses.
Since I was in Aptos for a few days, I got to dine at a several places that were super accommodating to this hungry vegan!
Arizona – the southwestern desert state – is home to the Grand Canyon. The largest city in the state, Phoenix, is a growing capital boasting its own baseball team, great outdoor activities and yes, a growing vegan population. I was stoked to see the great variety of healthy, vegan places to dine in and around Phoenix and I know you will too!!
So I’m back in Alamo City! This time it was just a quick trip but long enough to report some new vegan food finds!
Continuing my mini vegan road trip through Texas, I checked out Gruene. Another German settlement from the mid-1800’s, Gruene boasts some real history and buildings that still stand the test of time, housing full fledged businesses. One of the most impressive is Gruene Hall, whichc you may recognize from some big Hollywood films! Along with the entertainment, history and shopping, you’ll find some good eats for the traveling vegan!
Last time I was in Texas, I got the chance to do a tiny bit of road tripping and I stumbled upon New Braunfels. Just outside of San Antonio in Texas Hill Country, this quaint town was settled by German immigrants in the mid-1800s. With some real American history that can still be seen in parts of downtown, New Braunfels is best known for being the home of Schlitterbahn, a killer water park complete with water roller coaster! But the best part is that amongst the water flumes and ghosts of America’s past, you’ll find some delicious and nutritious grub!
Since Austin has so many great places to find healthy, vegan, gluten free and other tasty special diet eats, I thought I’d come back for round 2! Such a great Texas city that combines the hip and cool with great southern charm, check out some other fantastic places to visit when in Austin!
Austin, Texas is a vegan food mecca! The real problem here is choosing which amazing vegan food to eat when you’re just passing through!
