Cal-Maine has added another 1440 eggs to the recall. The eggs came from Ohio Fresh Eggs, which is owned by the same people responsible for the more than half billion eggs recalled in August of this year. The eggs have the potential to be infected with salmonella. Consumers are advised to return the eggs to the store where they were purchased.
Ohio Fresh Eggs, an egg factory farm co-owned by the owners of Hillandale Farms and Wright County Egg – yes, the folks behind the half billion egg recall – have found a positive sample of salmonella at their Croton, Ohio facility. No illnesses have been reported in conjunction with this recall. 288,000 eggs are being recalled.
Hillandale Farms and Wright County Egg – the two egg companies implicated in the salmonella infections this summer – applied to the FDA for permission to sell their eggs again. Hillandale Farms was granted permission. Wright County Egg was not.
