GMO Free USA Launches First Action Campaign: Watch Out, Kellogg’s!
Last month EDB reported on a new grass-roots organization seeking GMO labeling through direct consumer action. Faced with Monsanto’s corruption of democracy Connecticut and Vermont earlier this year, GMO Free USA formed to take the labeling issue directly to food manufacturers. The group announced its first action campaign yesterday: boycott-bazookas fire initial rounds this week at the Kellogg Company, demanding fair labeling of their products containing GMO ingredients.

Consumers want GMO labels by an overwhelming majority, but Monsanto has deep pockets — and so far, sufficient political clout to override the democratic process regarding labels for genetically modified foods. In response to this sorry state of affairs, one CT voter turned anger into action and founded GMO Free USA. This innovative grass-roots group seeks to take the issue directly to food manufacturers, through massive consumer action.

So youβve decided to become an environmentalist. First, I think it is helpful to know that this label doesnβt have to come with a lot of baggage. I believe it represents a certain mindset or inclination toward feeling compassion for our planet. This is in contrast to the common misconception that environmentalism only includes those who take extreme action in the name of the environment, though these actions are certainly on the spectrum of environmental engagement.
