Slow Wine Gifts Under $40

For me, this year has been the year of slow food, slow wine and slow design. So, this holiday season I’m hoping to keep things slow, and I have my eye on a number of hand-crafted wine gifts – slow wine gifts if you will – all under 40 clams.

Here are some ideas for gifts that your wine lover would be happy to see under their tree this year.

Hand Stamped Wine Glass Charms

Who can resist these fab personalized hand stamped custom wine glass charms?Β  These petite silver wine glass rings can be personalized with your meaningful names, dates, places, or events. Available from CoCo at Set of eight for $22.50.

Recycled Wine Bottle Glass Bracelet

This green recycled bottle glass bracelet is the perfect gift for the slow food and wine lady in your life. Handmade in and fairly traded from Guatemala, these eco-chic bracelets ($16.95) are made from recycled wine bottles that are collected from the Guatemala city dump, hand cut, and fashioned into jewelry by young workers without any previous training. Not only does your purchase open up new opportunity for these enterprising new artisans, but as an added bonus, when you buy it through The Hunger Site, your purchase funds 25 cups of food to people in need. Also check out the recycled bottle key chain from the same artisans ($7.95). Both available at The Hunger Site.

Custom Holiday Wine Labels

What could be better than custom holiday wine labels for Christmas, Hanukkah or….?Β  Personalized wine labels make a festive, creative addition to your hostess gift! Select label sentiment from this list: Season’s Greetings, Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah…or whatever you like on it as long as it fits in the banner space. If you want hand-crafted unlabeled wine contact us at or you can remove existing labels from any wine bottle before applying custom labels. Available from Nancy Nikko Design on 18 labels for $22.75.

Wine Punts

“Combining good craftsmanship with a green ethos, Wine Punts convert landfill-bound wine bottles into unique and functional drinking glasses for the table. Wine Punts are handmade in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where they’ve been recycling glassware since 2006.” Available at SHFT.COM. Four for $36.00.

Homemade Goodies

One of my favorite gifts is to bake somethingΒ  yummy in a brand new pan, print out the recipe and give it as a present. Individual Grape and Vin Santo Cakes in a handmade cast iron muffin pan make a great gift for dessert wine lovers. Wrap it up in a hand woven dish towel tied on both ends like a piece of taffy and you have a perfect gift. Recipes are free on; cast iron pans made by craftsmen who pour hot molten metal into sand molds to make each piece by hand, one piece at a time available from Southern Heritage Cookware $17.99; the hand woven dish towel shown is available from NutfieldWeaver on for $18.00 or check at local craft stores and farmer’s markets.

Hand-Crafted Wine

Finally, there’s nothing like the hand-crafted wine for the wine lover on your list. Find a couple of small, boutique wines (look for productions of 500 cases or fewer per varietal per year) and spread the love. Like the wines of k.furtado. The rosΓ© (174 cases produced) is rich and textured and has scents of rose petals, strawberry and tobacco. The Sauvignon Blanc (266 cases produced) is crisp and dry with aromas of orange rind, pineapple, mango and lychee. Available at $38.00 for one bottle of rosΓ© and one bottle of sauvignon blanc.
