Have you ever thought it was a little bit strange that we have both a hunger and an obesity epidemic here in the U.S.?
These seemingly polarized problems are actually strongly intertwined, and a new documentary looks at how our food system feeds both of these problems. A Place at the Table dives into the problems with our food system, from subsidies that encourage us to eat junk to the reasons that so many kids here in the U.S. go to bed hungry every night.
There’s a perception that people who need assistance to feed their families are lazy or that they’re mooching off of the system, and this film aims to show that the problem isn’t with the people who are hungry but with our food and our economic systems.

Take Action
Our food system is broken, and it’s time for us to fix it!
The filmmakers have an Action Center on their website, where they provide a script for calling to your Representatives and a hotline to connect you to your Congressperson. They want us to ask our elected Representatives in Congress to strengthen the SNAP program that helps so many hard-working, struggling families put food on the table.
You can also enter your zip code on that page and find ways to help fight hunger in your own community.
