Today is National Can-It-Forward Day. Ball, maker of canning kits, jars, and automatic jam makers, is sponsoring the day. Ball has also been kind enough to give us some goodies for a giveaways to three lucky readers.
National Can-It-Forward Day shines a spotlight on canning at the time of year when we are looking at the enormous bounty of our gardens and farmers markets and wondering what to do with all that. Ball is putting on a live event today starting at 10 a.m. Eastern. Jam making and water bath canning demos, pickles demo, and crafts will be streamed live on their event page. At noon, Ted Allen of Food Network’s show Chopped will host a full hour of canning and cooking. The one I’m most looking forward to is called “Cocktails in Ball Jars” hosted by Mason Jar NYC Restaurant.
Hosts will be taking questions during the event. There’s also a giveaway each hour on the Can-It-Forward site.

Eat Drink Better is giving away prizes to three lucky readers, courtesy of Ball.
First prize is a Ball Canning Discovery Kit and a coupon for a free case of canning jars. The Kit contains a polypropylene rack with a separate fitted lifter, three one-pint jars, and an illustrated canning instruction recipe book.
Two runners up will receive a coupon each for a free case of canning jars.

Peaches when in season!!
This year I am canning raspberry jelly, peach raspberry jam, and May Day jam. Here in Alaska I don’t have access to all the fresh vegetables that I did when we lived in the Midwest, but at least I will save the sweetness of summer.
I love blueberry jam and with all the blueberries around this season I would love to make and can some.

My favorite jam is mirabelle plums which is impossible to find; raspberries is my runner up and luckily there are plenty of those to be found :)
My favorite jam I’ve made so far was an apple pie jam spiced with cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg. It was SO GOOD and made amazing jam thumbprint cookies that tasted like tiny apple pies!

My favorite food to preserve is crushed tomatoes. I use them all winter long in delicious, warm soups and stews. Mmmm.
My favorite jam is strawberry jam made from strawberries my husband and I go pick from a local farm. Yum!
I love blackberry jam but only with seasonal, fresh Oregon blackberries! Kiwi- Lime jam is good too but there isn’t much to put it on!
I love to make apricot jam, but it’s always hard to decide whether I make a butter out of them, or just can them in halves, the way you would peaches. SO GOOD. And I’m following on Facebook . . .

Jalapeno is my fave, followed closely by crab apple!
My favorite jam is strawberry freezer jam. I mix it up in a large bowl, put it in the little plastic Ball preserving containers and then pop them in the freezer. It is so easy, saves money, is healthier for me and tastes so good.

My newest favorite find in Jam Recipes has become an addiction of making, eating and perfecting! Peach Jam is wonderful all on its own, but with the addition of Candied Ginger as the enhancement ingredient it only gets better. Candied Ginger Peach Jam is so incredibly delicious!
