KIND Nuts & Spices: Healthy AND Tasty

The folks at KIND HEALTHY SNACKS have done it again with KIND Nuts & Spices, a line of whole nut bars with only 5g or less of sugar. They are also all-natural (as in truly nothing artificial, not just the ubiquitous “all-natural” label), non-GMO and gluten free.  I recently received a box of samples and I’m very glad they are healthy because they are additive.

This new line of four varieties adds a new flavor dimension to KIND that is naturally lower in sugar by replacing fruit with spices like Madagascar vanilla, ginger, cinnamon and sea salt. Daniel Lubetzky, founder and CEO of KIND notes:

“Today’s consumers want and need lower sugar options, and until now, the only choices in this category included sugar alcohols and artificial sweeteners which compromise both taste and nutritional value. At KIND…we believe in healthy AND tasty, convenient AND wholesome, socially impactful AND economically sustainable.”

KIND Nuts & Spices is available in four varieties:

  • Dark Chocolate Nuts & Sea Salt provides 7g fiber, 6g protein and only 5g sugar (my personal favorite)
  • Madagascar Vanilla Almond provides 7g protein, 5g fiber and only 4g sugar
  • Dark Chocolate Cinnamon Pecan provides 7g fiber, 5g protein and only 5g sugar
  • Cashew & Ginger Spice provides 6g protein, 5g fiber and only 4g sugar

According to the company, KIND Nuts & Spices is the first in the category to provide consumers “a delicious, natural way to control sugar intake and meet daily protein and fiber needs without using chemicals or sugar alcohols.”

According to an 2010 article in Yale Journal of Biology and Medicine, research studies suggest that artificial sweeteners may contribute to weight gain as opposed to weight loss. Nutrition experts hypothesize that this is due to the fact that artificial sweeteners trigger different signals in the brain that are less effective in curbing sweet cravings. It follows that foods that reduce sugar content naturally are healthier. In the case of KIND Nuts & Fruits, the use of spice for flavor (in place of fruit), along with nutritionally-rich ingredients, helps to keep you fuller longer and provide sustainable energy.

I’m sold.  (And, if eating healthy isn’t enough to win you over then their Do the KIND Thing® movement is sure to win you over.)
