Home Grown Mushrooms

On top of being just plain delicious, mushrooms are an excellent vegan source of dietary copper. We need copper in our diets to help our bodies produce red blood cells. They’re also a great source of potassium, which promotes healthy muscle and nerve function.

We’ve talked here before about foraging for wild mushrooms, but it’s also possible to grow your very own using a mushroom kit.

BTTR, a California-based company, specializes in oyster mushroom kits that you grow right out of the box. The coolest part? The spores live in recycled coffee grounds!

Here’s a video interview with BTTR Ventures’ co-founders, including a tour of their sustainable, indoor urban mushroom farm:

Pretty awesome, right?

Have any of you guys tried growing your own mushrooms? It’s something I’ve been wanting to try for a while, so I’d love to hear how it went!
