After reading Victoria Boutenko’s Green for Life book, I decided to challenge myself to drink green smoothies daily, as she recommends. Here is how it’s going so far.I have been drinking the smoothies for about 10 days now. I have only tried two smoothie recipes so far, but have created four different smoothies (mostly on accident.) The first recipe called for swiss chard and spinach together, but I decided to use Swiss chard one week and spinach the next. It is difficult to go through a large bunch of swiss chard when I’m only using two cups per day. Each green tastes a little different and adds it’s own flavor. The next recipe called for dandelion greens. The first week I accidentally bough mustard greens; week two I bought dandelion greens (what a difference!) Next week I plan on trying two new smoothie recipes with two new greens. I’m trying to vary the type of green to get full green nutrition.
These smoothies make me feel great! My mom is also trying the smoothies with me, and she too feels like she has more energy throughout the day. We both feel full longer and crave “bad” food less. It’s difficult to put something unhealthy in your mouth right after drinking a green smoothie (it just doesn’t seem right!)
I have made one modification to the smoothies–green tea. Each recipe calls for two cups of water. I instead use freshly brewed and chilled green tea. It does not change the taste of the smoothies at all.
