DIY Breakfast Pastry Recipes

Remember not long ago, when Megan Prusynski wrote about better-for-you snacks and treats in her post, “My Top Ten Quick, Healthy, Sustainable Snacks“? And Sharon Troy wrote “Seven Eco-Friendly Options For Less Junky Junk Food“? These two showed you can make whole foods-based snacks (or at least buy organic snacks at Whole Foods). How about a hybrid of the two?

Several food bloggers have tried their take on homemade breakfast pastries–you know, the ones you put in the toaster, the ones that kids love? The ones that are chock full of additives and preservatives? Try making your own. If you want a sweet treat for breakfast without buying prepackaged and processed, check out Tarah at Genesis of a Cook‘s recipe for homemade pop tarts–complete with sprinkles that kids will love. For a even better-for-you version, Chez Pim‘s luscious-looking jam-filled tarts look like heaven on a baking sheet. And The Spotted Apron‘s raspberry-lemon-filled tarts sound perfect for a summer breakfast. Personally, I’ll be trying out Chez Pim’s recipes as soon as I start making my own jam.
