Confession time! I have a pretty rabid sweet tooth. It’s super hard for me to resist anything chocolate, and if we keep sugary treats in the house, I tend to go way overboard. How do you cut back on sugar without feeling deprived?
Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about my sugar consumption and toying with trying to actively replace the cookies and cupcakes in my life with healthier alternatives, so I was thrilled when Andrea Devon at our newest sister site – Vibrant Wellness Journal – began sharing her journey to a lower sugar life.

One trick that’s been working for me is adding a splash of unsweetened cranberry or lemon juice to my water a few times a day, usually about 1 part juice to 6 parts water. It gives me a little bit of flavor without any refined sugars. Using seltzer water instead of flat water makes this into even more of a treat!
I’m not sure I’m ready to totally give up the vegan doughnuts, but I definitely want to try out some of her tips, especially some of her suggestions for replacing sweets with healthy, whole food alternatives.
