In Season Now: APPLES!

When did apple picking become such a competitive sport? We went out with a couple of the kids and our grand kids this past weekend, and when we pulled up to the farm driveway and saw lots of official looking men with flags to direct traffic and that cars were already overflowing into a new parking field at 10am, we kind of knew we might be in for a serious adventure.

Green Divas & Dudes Prefer Organic Food

This green diva has to weigh in on all the buzz and banter about the latest study from Stanford about the lack of nutritional benefit from eating organic food. There is a lot of evidence that I wasn’t the only one irritated and quite surprised to see how this study was spun into a pro-chemical pesticide and fertilizer piece.

Farmer’s Market Fare: Late Summer Mix (recipes)

I finally live in a town that has a farmer’s market – not that I lived so far from it before we moved a whole mile and a half to the new place, but there is something about being able to walk out the door with a couple of bags and walk down to the farmer’s market on a Saturday morning that is particularly awesome.

6 Ways to Love Kale

My husband and kids love kale – no, really they do! I wasn’t always a big fan myself, but I learned about the many virtues of this amazing veggie and got creative to find ways to enjoy it. Whether you are a vegan, vegan wannabe, vegetarian or are an omnivore and love delicious food, you might appreciate the power of the mighty cashew and it’s amazing versatility.

Vegan Cinco de Mayo Brunch Featuring Easy Mole

I love all the vegan foodie porn out there on Pinterest and FoodGawker and of course, the recipes on sites like this one! Found this one that claimed a quick and easy mole (the traditional Mexican spicy chocolate sauce that is kinda like brown crack) . . . have you ever tried to make mole?

Confessions of a Cheese Addicted Vegan Wannabe

Over the years, I’ve wandered in and out of various states of vegan and vegetarian and even had a few years as an omnivore (but only ate very carefully chosen responsibly raised meats). My downfall has always been cheese. Do they have a 12-step program for cheese – just cheese? I need it.

Practically Green & the Healthy Green Diva Kitchen

GD Meg and I are always learning new ways to stay healthy through the food we eat and serve. We are both foodies. There are some ingredients that each of us keep in our respective kitchens (and the green diva test kitchen @ GDHQ) for those creative moments when we need to throw something nutritious together for ourselves or our families.

5 Good Reasons to Join a CSA

Join the growing (pun intended) number of people who are discovering CSAs (Community Supported Agriculture). A CSA, also known as β€œsubscription farming,” is a way for people to buy super fresh, in-season produce like fruits and vegetables and even meat directly from local farmers.

Fran Drescher on Cancer Schmancer and Organic Food

We talked to the amazing Fran Drescher actress and activist and founder of Cancer Schmancer for this segment and asked her what she is most passionate about when it comes to sustainable and healthy living and why should we care . . . She really gets that many of the toxins in our every day environment are making us sick and we have to start to pay attention to the food we eat, how we grow it; our homes and how we clean them, etc.
