4 Tips for Bouncing Back From Holiday Gluttony

We all tend to over-indulge during a holiday week, but rather than dwelling on the unhealthy, you can look ahead and bounce back.

A little overindulgence is not so bad if it’s just done less than occasionally, and it’s even better when done with friends and family over the holiday. What’s life if you can’t enjoy it right? Right! Today is a new day and it’s time to get back on track.

Rather than beating yourself up, use this as an opportunity to take a fresh look at your routine. Bouncing back from a few days off isn’t easy to do, but think of it as a fresh start. Make new short term goals. Get your sweat on and just do it.

Here are some tips to help you get back on track.

1. Hydrate With Lots of Water

Most of the time holiday fun also equals dehydration. You mingle, you drink lots of alcoholic beverages, you travel, and often times you somehow forget to put enough H2o in your body. Today and tomorrow try to drink plenty of water. Drink at least one ounce of water for every two pounds of body weight during the day. For example, if you weight 130lbs you’ll want to drink around 65 oz of water.

Try to avoid adding artificial sweeteners to do it. Those aren’t so good for you but that is for another day, another article. If you want flavor, squirt some natural flavors in there from fruits like lemons, limes, oranges. I always go with mint leaves.

2. Eat Fresh, Uncooked, and Raw

Don’t be afraid to try a vegan or vegetarian diet for a few days. I am not asking you to do this for life. I am just asking you to give your body a break for a day or two. You probably put  it in shock with all the dairy and red meat over the holiday. Your body is precious, so treat it like the king or queen that it is.

Eat a plant-based diet for the rest of this week (or at least until Friday). Consume lots of leafy greens, wheat grass, veggies, sprouts, certain fruits, nuts and seeds. Foods like this are full of the vitamins and minerals that the healthy cells in our body love. Try not to put too much heat on the raw foods either, and eat some of those veggies raw! Cooking foods too much just drains all the good stuff out and if you do that then whats the point.

3. Tip Your Body’s pH Scale with Alkaline Foods and Drinks

When you eat lots of processed foods your body becomes more acidic. Having all that acid junk in your body opens the doors to inflammation, disease, bad skin, weak immune systems and a bunch of other yuckiness that I won’t mention. To avoid this we want you to tip that scale by adding more Alkaline to your diet like green leafy veggies and herbs. You can do it for a day or so.  Don’t Knock  It Until You Try It . I guarantee you will feel better.

4. Hit the Gym and Sweat it Out

The best way to burn off all of those bad decisions is to get in the gym, grab some weights, and break a sweat. Try at least 30 minutes of some type of cardio and be sure to add some resistance training in there. Give it all you got this week and clean your body out!
