Best Vegan Food Apps (+ a Vegan Drinks App!)
1. Happy Cow, $3.99
Find vegan food in your city or anywhere in the world with Happy Cow App. It’s basically Yelp for vegan food. The thing I love about Happy Cow is that it doesn’t just include all-vegan restaurants. When you’re traveling to smaller towns, that might mean finding zero things that you can eat. Happy Cow includes restaurants that are vegan-friendly, and the reviews usually suggest things to ask and order at those places.
2. Finding Vegan, $2.99
If you’re looking for a vegan recipes app, Finding Vegan is a stellar resource. Just like the website, the app shares the latest and greatest recipes from top vegan food bloggers. You can browse, search, and share recipes. App creator Kathy Patalsky also donates 10 cents from every sale of the app to one of these animal charities.
3. Is It Vegan?, free or $4.99
If you’re worried about hidden animal ingredients, the Is It Vegan? app is your best pal. It’s a bar code scanner, so you don’t even have to search. Just use your phone to scan the barcode of the food you’re looking at, and Is It Vegan? tells you whether it contains animal ingredients.
Wondering whether your beer was filtered through fish bladder or refined with animal connective tissue? Barnivore, my friends. OK, real talk: Barnivore doesn’t have an official app, but! There are quite a few apps available that use Barnivore’s database of vegan beer, wine, and liquor. I use the Vegaholic app for iPhone, because it’s available offline, and my phone’s data plan is so tiny that you can’t even sign up for it with a new contract. You can read my review of Vegaholic here. You can also use the Barnivore site on your phone, if you don’t want to download an app – it’s very mobile-friendly.
5. Whole Foods Market Recipes, free
This is not a 100% vegan app, but you can filter Whole Foods Market Recipes to show only vegan options. The app also helps you create shopping lists categorized by store section, to make grocery shopping quicker and easier. You can even send your shopping list to Instacart through the app, and they’ll deliver your groceries to your door! Instacart does charge a delivery fee, so keep that in mind when you’re shopping!
Do you have any favorite vegan food apps (or drinks apps) that aren’t on this list? I’d love to keep this resource list going in the comments!
