The e-book has 34 super simple vegan recipes that anyone can make. What does that have to do with zombies? Author “Dr. Zombie” explains, “The old joke about vegan zombies eating grains is what inspired this whole thing. Vegan cookbooks are always so involved and complicated, and most non-vegans hate the recipes with tofu. I wanted to simplify things and make recipes that everyone can prepare and enjoy, even mindless zombies.”

I might take issue with the idea of non-vegans disliking well-prepared tofu, but I am definitely no stranger to folks who fear tofu and other vegan foods more than they fear an outbreak of fast zombies.

Each of the recipes takes around 15 minutes to make, according to the author, and he tried to include some fun twists on classic vegan fare. You can grab the recipe for Hummus Garden Crackers (made with vanilla hummus) below.

Hummus Garden Crackers

Yield: 5 servings as an appetizer; 1 person as a meal, if you pair it with some soup

Ingredients

  • 1 cup hummus
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 25 crackers
  • 25 grape tomatoes
  • 25 basil leaves

Method

  1. Mix the hummus and vanilla extract in a bowl. Make sure you get it evenly spread out, or one of your crackers is going to taste like some weird basil candy.
  2. Cut the grape tomatoes in half.
  3. Spread the vanilla hummus you just made on the crackers (about 2 teaspoons per cracker). Add one basil leaf and two halves of a grape tomato to each cracker.

    I couldn’t wait for Halloween, I had to buy it today. Anyway, the vanilla hummus idea got me going. Tried it out, loved it. Didn’t have basil so I just put it on some pita. I can’t believe I’ve never heard of this before. For lunch I tried the Gutsy Soba Noodle. Took like 5 minutes with a microwave. When I think about how much time this is gonna save me with cooking, it’s def worth $3!
