Emily Wines, the aptly named Master Sommelier and Director of Wines at Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants is gearing up to unveil the 2012 Wines That Care program.
Through the Wines that Care program, Emily creates partnerships with winemakers with a particular dedication to the earth and/or their local communities.
Kimpton features a different winery each month and serves guests complimentary pours during its hosted nightly wine hour at more than 50 hotels across the country.
Last year’s Wines That Care wineries were:
“… a combination of worldly and wise. Each winery was selected, not just for its great-tasting wines, but for its social consciousness. Once again, we have Bill Kimpton to thank for the idea. He practiced sustainable business long before that idea caught on. Today, all our hotels and restaurants work with other companies that share our values, and our intention is to live up to your standards, too.”
In 2010 the wines included Hayes Ranch (Wente Family Estates is a supporter of Dress for Success San Francisco), Frontera (supporters of WomenHeart, the nation’s only patient-centered advocacy organization serving the 41 million American women living with, or at risk of, heart disease) and Oxford Landing which a has been “committed to environmental leadership since 1958” (Wines’ notes that Oxford Landing produces only vegan/vegetarian wine.)
Right now, Emily is tasting her way through new partners for 2012. Something to look forward to.
