How to Join the No-to-GMOs Movement

Following up on my post yesterday on the horrible but not at all surprising news that 13 scientific studies have linked GMOs to organ disruption, as promised, here’s a little more info on how to get involved in the citizen movement against GMOs.

no GMOs label

I like bullet-point lists for this sort of thing, so let’s start like that.

  • Be informed. Many of us, when we get the point that something is “good” or “bad” for our health, the environment, or whatever, may have the tendency to start telling others about it. That’s a good thing, I think. But if we are not well-informed and run up against people who don’t automatically trust us or get the point, we can have problems and can even develop doubts. There’s a ton of information out there on GMOs — the post yesterday is a good place to start, as is THE GMO Video I shared awhile back (with some commentary) and is at the top of this post. Information is power, and while the GMO industry can afford to generate misleading, false information, nothing beats the truth (eventually).
  • Check out Millions Against Monsanto. The Organic Consumers Association (OCA) has created this great campaign. Basically, the plan is to have 435 chapters, one for each Congressional district, with an average of 2300 supporters in each. That would create 1,000,000 people “in support of our right to know and choose what’s in our food” and would hopefully be enough to get Congress moving. The webpage for the campaign includes 8 good ways to get involved. It also has more information on Monsanto’s crimes and government ties. You can also join the association’s National Grassroots Network.
  • The Institute for Responsible Technology, perhaps the leading body addressing GMOs, has a number of ways you can get involved as well. You can join the Non-GMO Tipping Point Network, become trained to speak about GMOs, volunteer with the institute, or at least donate to it. Jeffrey Smith is THE GMO guy, “the world’s leading consumer advocate promoting healthier, non-GMO choices,” and has been running the institute for years.

And, of course, shop non-GMO. There are resources to help you: the Non-GMO Shopping Guide or the ShopNoGMO iPhone app.

The no-to-GMOs movement is heating up. Are you involved yet?

Thanks for posting this excellent compilation of ‘no-GMO’ resources… consider it shared!

Long live the Resistance– may the rebel forces thrive and flourish, and the tyrant be soundly vanquished! :-)

  • A very effective way to help the anti-GMO movement is to spread AWARENESS and make shopping for non-GMO goods simple. Both these things are achieved by a powerful new campaign…
