I have to admit it, you guys: when my friend Zach sent me this video, I cried.

My husband and I are raising our child vegetarian, and this felt like it might be a glimpse at the compassionate kiddo-to-be we are raising! Our baby, Darrol Henry, is only three months old right now, but once in a while when I see older kids I feel like I’m getting a preview of his future. This video was one of those moments for me, and I couldn’t resist sharing it with you!

In the video, Luiz’s mother serves him octopus gnocchi, which spurs a conversation about eating animals. Vegetarian and vegan mommas and poppas, get out your hankies, then hit play:

The quote that got me? “These animals…you gotta take care of them…and not eat them!”

Over at our sister site, Planetsave, Zach shares a second video with some more grown-up reasons to eat veg. Click here to check that out!

  1. Dude, I totally cried when I saw this video. Hard to argue with the innocence of a kid. My favorite line is “I like them standing up”.

  2. Zach says:

Such an adorable & thoughtful boy, eh? :D

So many kids do have this tendency. But this boy is so eloquent and persistent. :D

    Thanks for sharing! :D

  3. Heather says:

AWWW! He is so smart! I was standing in the line at the Butcher as child with my mom & saw all the dead beasts, bottled, pickled eggs, tongue etc.. and I told my mom I only wanted to eat fruit. That meat tasted gross. I wish she had let me & listened to me. I wish I had been more eloquent like this boy was. <3 him!

  4. Holly says:

    OHWOW!
I am crying right now. Wow, you weren’t kidding.
“Mum: Why are you crying?”.. And then we take kids for granted?
May I adopt this son? He is so adorable, I love him!!
