It’s Official: Chick-Fil-A Opposes Gay Marriage

Do you support gay marriage? You might want to think twice before heading to Chick-Fil-A.

In case the factory farmed meat and those frankly terrible Eat More Chikin ads weren’t enough to keep you from visiting Chick-Fil-A, the chain’s owner has officially come out against gay marriage.

Chick-Fil-A has a pretty terrible record when it comes to gay rights already. In 2009, the company donated almost $2 million to anti-gay groups, and in 2011 it gave $1.1 million to anti-gay organizations, including ones that engage in humiliating reparative therapy. Despite his company’s continued financial support of the anti-gay agenda, owner Dan Cathy repeatedly denied having “an agenda against anyone,” and he even said that Chick-Fil-A “will not champion any political agendas on marriage and family.”

Until now, I guess.

In Cathy’s recent interview with The Baptist Press, he changed his tune. Here’s an excerpt from the article:

Some have opposed the company’s support of the traditional family. “Well, guilty as charged,” said Cathy when asked about the company’s position.

“We are very much supportive of the family — the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that.

The company has always had strong religious overtones, closing their stores on Sundays for example. In the interview, Cathy calls Chick-Fil-A a “family business.” You know, as long as by “family” you mean a man and a woman.

As he points out in the interview, he is free to have whatever opinion he wants, saying, “We know that it might not be popular with everyone, but thank the Lord, we live in a country where we can share our values and operate on biblical principles.”

Thank the Lord that we as consumers can take our business elsewhere.
